Economic Impact: Football’s Contribution to Local Communities
Sports leagues like the NB III Southwest Hungary not only entertain but also contribute significantly to local economies. Match days boost revenue through varied channels:
[0]: As retail acceleration has gained momentum over the past several years, F&B retailers are ramping up their efforts as well. [1]: With tough economic conditions still lingering over consumers’ heads, top F&B brands are having to employ unique strategies to capture and secure crucial trade interactions. [2]: Christophe LaBossiere, group marketing director for Nestle Waters North America (part of Nestle Waters North America) believes success depends not only on a company's ability to offer consumers their favorite products but first on their ability to engage them in meaningful interactions and create memorable experiences. [3]: “Considered content is great content," says LaBossiere, who recently sat down with SN for an exclusive interview about how F&B brands can best position themselves to succeed in this ever-changing marketplace. Below is an edited version of his commentary. [4]: SN: Walk us through your role as head of marketing at Nestle Waters North America. [5]: LaBossiere: We’re going through some changes in the marketplace that actually call us, as marketers at Nestle Waters North America, to think differently about our brands. [6]: We have two major brands, Poland Spring and Nestea. Poland Spring has had a dominant share of the bottled water market for more than three decades. [7]: But now we’re seeing water develop into a clear growth category, with some of it driven by new rather than existing brands (e.g., vitamin waters or carbonated waters). Because of this shift, we’ve been investing a lot in our innovation program. [8]: For example, we’ve introduced a sparkling water brand called Glaceau vitaminwater sparkling at two different caloric levels: Zero Sugar (six calories) and Essential (32 calories). It’s an interesting new launch because we think it offers consumers another alternative within the bottled beverages category that reflects clean labels. [9]: Today, we’re also seeing three out of four Americans trying to do something about how they feel every day. [10]: A lot of that’s driven by consumers being more health-conscious around caffeine, so here we have Nestea, which was launched [42 years ago] almost as an alternative to coffee — it’s the third-largest caffeine beverage brand now behind coffee. [11]: These two brands — Poland Spring and Nestea — represent very different needs for consumers. For Poland Spring we have two direct-to-consumer businesses — inside [retail] stores with Diageo [for Nestea] and a direct pipeline [for Poland Spring] — as well as operations [through Coca-Cola as a distributor] outside the stores. [12]: Finally, we also have a water treatment business that processes about eight billion gallons of water annually. [13]: We’re doing more than ever before at Nestle Waters North America, a really dynamic place to work today. [14]: SN: Clearly you’ve gotten into the healthier beverage arena with the introduction of vitaminwater. What are some of your other marketing initiatives at Poland Spring? [15]: LaBossiere: Earlier this year, we came up with a new packaging concept called MyLook that allows consumers to personalize their water bottles while at the same time doing something for the environment. [16]: MyLook comprises two parts: the label, where consumers choose their top message (Raiders/Healing Waters/Exploration/Around The World/Birthdays), one of five pre-selected themes; then they upload their picture on a complementary circular label that’s printed right at their local grocery store or drug store via a mobile app. [17]: This enables consumers to personalize an empty Poland Spring bottle as they get it off the shelf so it truly becomes theirs. [18]: SN: Do you think MyLook will not only strike a chord with consumers but also help drive sales growth? [19]: LaBossiere: To date, we’ve seen nothing but very positive reactions toward MyLook because we’re continuing to work on building shopper engagement through this practice. [20]: MyLook still lives outside in retail stores. It hasn’t migrated online yet because we’re taking it one step at a time as we continue to learn from the first waves of shopper data. [21]: SSN: What role are you seeing retailers play within location-based initiatives such as MyLook? [22]: LaBossiere: Retailers are able to re-engage consumers every time they come into the store by leveraging digital tools such as mobile apps. [23]: As brands, we’re still figuring out ways to engage consumers through these tools — we don’t want these appeals to become too consumer noise. [24]: Our challenge today as marketers is that we have this massive amount of data but we don’t always know how best to employ it in order to engage
