Tips for New Fans: How to Get Started with Iranian Football
Here is a paragraph:
First published 2008
I have written this book primarily for people who work with children who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). It is also suitable for parents or other carers who wish to help children with ASD learn appropriate social skills.
I have been working with children with ASD since 1988 when I first became involved with an innovative project at St Francis Special School which pioneered work with these children using a behavioural approach.
I then worked at Ricksdown House School where I developed my skills further by working with children with more complex difficulties.
My current position as head teacher at Leaside School allows me access both theoretically and practically to cutting-edge research into ASD.
The development of social skills is particularly important for children with ASD because they have difficulty understanding social situations.
Many children with ASD are also very literal thinkers which makes it difficult for them both verbally or non-verbally communicate socially appropriate behaviour.
They also find it hard adapting their behaviour appropriately depending upon changes in context or situation.
In order for children with ASD to learn appropriate social skills they need systematic teaching using structured programmes.
This book will show you how easy this can be.
It will provide practical ideas which can be used at school or at home by anyone working with children with ASD.
The book will also provide ideas on how teachers can set up appropriate social learning environments within mainstream classrooms.
The book includes case studies which demonstrate how particular strategies can be used successfully.
Each chapter ends with suggestions for further reading which should prove useful if you wish to find out more about particular topics.
### Exercise
Read each statement below carefully. Using only information provided in the paragraph above along with common sense, determine whether each statement is entailed by (logically follows from), contradicted by (is logically incompatible with), or neutral (neither entailed nor contradicted by) the information in the paragraph.
1. The author has over 20 years of experience working specifically with children who have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
2. The behavioural approach was discredited by St Francis Special School during its pioneering project.
3. Ricksdown House School focuses exclusively on children without complex difficulties.
4. Leaside School does not engage in any research activities related to ASD.
5. Children with ASD generally do not face challenges when interpreting social cues due to their literal way of thinking.
6. Systematic teaching using structured programmes is unnecessary for children with ASD according to recent research cited by the author.
7. The book provides strategies solely for use within mainstream classrooms.
### Solutions
1. **Entailed** - The paragraph states that "I have been working with children with ASD since 1988," indicating that as of 2008 (the year mentioned at the beginning), this would amount to over 20 years' experience.
2. **Contradicted** - The paragraph mentions "an innovative project at St Francis Special School which pioneered work...using a behavioural approach." There is no indication that this approach was discredited; rather, it implies success or innovation.
3. **Contradicted** - It is mentioned that at Ricksdown House School "I developed my skills further by working with children with more complex difficulties." This suggests that they indeed work with such children rather than exclusively focusing on those without complex difficulties.
4. **Contradicted** - The author states "My current position as head teacher at Leaside School allows me access both theoretically and practically to cutting-edge research into ASD." This directly implies engagement in research activities related to ASD.
5. **Contradicted** - According to the paragraph, "Many children with ASD are also very literal thinkers which makes it difficult for them both verbally or non-verbally communicate socially appropriate behaviour." This implies challenges when interpreting social cues.
6. **Contradicted** - The paragraph asserts "In order for children with ASD to learn appropriate social skills they need systematic teaching using structured programmes." This suggests that such teaching methods are considered necessary.
7. **Neutral** - While it states "The book will also provide ideas on how teachers can set up appropriate social learning environments within mainstream classrooms," it does not specify whether these strategies are exclusive only to mainstream classrooms or if they can be applied elsewhere as well (such as special education settings). Thus, there's no information regarding exclusivity.
Here is a paragraph:
In January 2020 I wrote about “Vaccines Are Not Going Away”. In August 2020 I wrote “Vaccine Mandates Are Coming”. Well here we are now after living through what has been called “the greatest public health crisis” since WWII – we have seen mandates happen across Canada – some provincially like Ontario – some federally like Public Health Agency Canada (PHAC) requiring all employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be tested regularly – some privately like most major airlines requiring proof-of-vaccination before boarding flights – some provincially like British Columbia mandating proof-of-vaccination before entering restaurants – some privately like most major retailers requiring proof-of-vaccination before entering stores – some provincially like Quebec mandating proof-of-vaccination before entering gyms – some privately like many universities requiring proof-of-vaccination before entering campuses – some provincially like Alberta mandating proof-of-vaccination before entering nightclubs – some privately like many employers requiring proof-of-vaccination before entering workplaces – some provincially like Manitoba mandating proof-of-vaccination before entering schools – etc., etc., etc..
What all these mandates share in common is two things:
1) They apply only if someone chooses NOT TO GET VACCINATED – meaning if someone chooses TO GET VACCINATED then they don’t have any obligation whatsoever under any mandate
AND
2) They all relate back directly or indirectly back towards protecting people from COVID-19 infection either directly (e.g., protection from getting COVID-19) or indirectly (e.g., protection from being around people who might spread COVID-19)
The issue here isn’t vaccines per se nor even mandates per se but rather something else entirely – which brings us back around full circle towards what I wrote about way back in January 2020…
In short my view has always been simple – vaccines should be optional not mandatory
At least two reasons why:
First reason
There’s simply no moral justification whatsoever for forcing someone else via mandate or coercion or threat of penalty (i.e., fines / penalties / jail time / loss-of-income / loss-of-job / loss-of-healthcare benefits / etc.) into taking something into their own body when doing so puts them at risk however slight
Second reason
Mandates inevitably result in unintended consequences
For example:
(1) Mandates drive underground vaccine-hesitant people who don’t want their private healthcare decisions exposed publicly
(2) Mandates increase mistrust between individuals & groups resulting in less trust overall & less cooperation overall which ultimately results in worse outcomes overall
(3) Mandates create false sense security among those who are vaccinated because they think they’re safe from infection when they’re actually not safe from infection since vaccines aren’t perfect & don’t prevent transmission entirely
(4) Mandates create resentment among those who choose not get vaccinated because they feel unfairly targeted & discriminated against while those who do choose get vaccinated feel entitled & superior
(5) Mandates incentivize dishonesty among those who lie about being vaccinated so they can avoid being penalized under mandate rules
(6) Mandates incentivize fraud among those who forge vaccine passports so they can avoid being penalized under mandate rules
(7) Mandates incentivize violence among those who attack vaccine passport offices so they can disrupt implementation & enforcement efforts
(8) Mandates incentivize terrorism among those who threaten violence against vaccine passport users so they can intimidate them into not using them anymore
(9) Mandates incentivize corruption among government officials who abuse power & resources allocated towards enforcing mandate rules instead focusing elsewhere where more important issues exist such as poverty reduction & climate change mitigation efforts
(10) Mandates incentivize discrimination against minorities & marginalized communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19 due lack access healthcare resources including vaccines themselves resulting further marginalization already facing such groups due systemic racism discrimination sexism homophobia transphobia ableism classism ageism etc..
So what do we do instead?
We need better solutions than mandates which address root causes instead symptoms only temporarily alleviating problems without solving underlying issues causing them begin with first principle starting point recognizing individual autonomy human dignity right make own decisions regarding personal healthcare choices without interference coercion pressure manipulation persuasion force compulsion threat violence etc..
We must respect individual autonomy human dignity right make own decisions regarding personal healthcare choices without interference coercion pressure manipulation persuasion force compulsion threat violence etc.. We must recognize individual autonomy human dignity right make own decisions regarding personal healthcare choices without interference coercion pressure manipulation persuasion force compulsion threat violence etc.. We must acknowledge individual autonomy human dignity right make own decisions regarding personal healthcare choices without interference coercion pressure manipulation persuasion force compulsion threat violence etc..
If someone chooses not get vaccinated then let them live their lives however they see fit without fear reprisal punishment penalty fine jail time loss income job loss benefits etc.. If someone chooses get vaccinated then let them enjoy benefits vaccination however small insignificant inconsequential negligible minimal trivial whatever word preferred describing perceived benefit however great huge enormous massive colossal titanic gargantuan whatever word preferred describing perceived benefit however great huge enormous massive colossal titanic gargantuan outweighs risks associated taking something unknown uncertain unpredictable untested unproven unregulated unlicensed uninspected uninsurable untraceable unaccountable unquantifiable unmeasurable unverifiable unchallengeable unrebuttable unquestionable uncontestable undefeatable undefendable undefinable unthinkable unimaginable unprecedented unparalleled unrivaled unrivalled unparalleled unmatched unequalled incomparable incomparable unsurpassed unsurpassable unsurpassible unsurmountable unsurmountable unsurpassed unsurpassable unsurpassible unsurmountable unsurmountable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseeable unforeseen…
Vaccines should remain optional not mandatory
Exercise:
Read each statement below carefully and determine whether it entails from (is necessarily true given), contradicts (is necessarily false given), or is neutral (neither necessarily true nor necessarily false given) according to information provided in the provided paragraph:
1. Vaccine mandates have been universally accepted across Canada without any resistance or negative consequences.
2. Some private companies require proof-of-vaccination before allowing employees into workplaces.
3. The author believes that vaccine mandates should remain because they protect people from COVID-19 effectively without any drawbacks.
4. There are instances where vaccine mandates have led individuals who are hesitant about vaccines seeking ways around public exposure of their health decisions.
5. The author suggests that respecting individual autonomy means allowing people freedom from forced medical interventions regardless of potential risks involved.
6. Vaccine mandates may contribute positively towards reducing systemic racism according to insights shared within the paragraph.
7. According to the author's view expressed earlier in January 2020, vaccines were going away as a public health measure.
Solutions:
1. Contradicts - The paragraph explicitly states various forms of resistance and negative consequences resulting from vaccine mandates such as increased mistrust between individuals/groups (leading less cooperation), creating resentment among those not vaccinated feeling unfairly targeted, incentivizing dishonesty/forgery/attacks/terrorism/corruption due to mandates; thus contradicting universal acceptance without resistance.
2. Entails - It is stated within the paragraph: "some privately like many employers requiring proof-of-vaccination before entering workplaces" which directly supports this statement.
3. Contradicts - The author clearly argues against vaccine mandates stating there's no moral justification for forcing vaccinations via mandates due to risk imposition; lists unintended consequences; advocates for vaccines being optional not mandatory; hence contradicting support for mandates based on effectiveness without drawbacks.
4. Entails - The paragraph outlines one unintended consequence as "Mandates drive underground vaccine
